History was made at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland when trumpet legend Edward Tarr, organist Irmtraud Tarr, The Wallace Collection and students from the RCS joined forces to perform ‘Trumpet Traditions’ as part of the Conservatoire’s Friday at One concert series.
American trumpeter, Edward Tarr, has pioneered the revival of Baroque & Romantic era trumpet performance practice, and over the years has compiled an unparalleled collection of resources. The RCS Archives have now acquired the Tarr Collection – one of the world’s finest and most extensive, protecting this unique legacy for future generations.
To celebrate this historical transfer of care, Trumpet Traditions presented an exciting and varied collection of music, some performed on the period instruments for which it was originally composed. Through Ed Tarr’s research and discoveries, he has reignited awareness of previously forgotten composers and dramatically extended the repertoire for trumpet as a result.
